Be a ROCKSTAR Hostess! Part 1

Hi all! Welcome to my new weekly feature, “How to be a Rockstar Hostess”! Parties are a huge passion of mine, so I want to share some of what I have learned over the years and dozens of parties!

Tip of the Week:

THEME. This is the glue that holds everything together. Even when I am having a few friends over for a small dinner party, I create a theme. It may sound silly to do that for small events, but personally it really helps me get organized. For example, I was having a small party for friends, and decided on a Mexican theme. That way, I could do a nacho bar where everyone brought a topping, serve a big batch of margaritas, and do decorations such as these succulents potted in salsa jars from the Dollar Tree. Once you decide on your theme you can really focus on what you need to get done, instead of struggling with decisions like what to serve, etc. And DETAILS are everything. We will talk more about this in future posts, but I’ll just say details are what people remember about your parties

There are a million little details you can implement to really make your theme cohesive and your guests say WOW! Here are just a few to think about:

  1. Food Labels-Name your dishes to match the theme and make labels to display food.
  2. Signature Cocktail(one of my faves!)-Create a signature cocktail and name it to match your theme as well.
  3. Parting Gifts-This could be something as simple as a homemade cookie in a pretty bag with a nice tag. A super thoughtful and special thing for people to leave with.
  4. Decor-flowers, linens, PRINTABLES (more on this later), and so much more can be used to enhance your theme. For example, I recently hosted a game night, and I filled vases with dice and made garlands using playing cards. Scour the aisles at the dollar stores and you’d be amazed at what you can come up with.
  5. Music-With Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora and more, you can come up with the perfect playlists to support your theme. Music is essential to a great party!
